KanaQuiz is a Japanese-learning web application: study games, daily challenges, and listening and reading practice. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms.

Disclaimer & liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties. We are a study aid, not a guarantee of exam results. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.

What we collect

• Account data from Google sign-in: your Google account id, display name, email address, and avatar.
• Study activity: your answers, scores, streaks, progress and preferences — this is the product working, not tracking.
• Technical data: a session cookie (sign-in only — we set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies) and error logs.

How it's used

To operate the service: save your progress across devices, compute your stats and mastery, show the leaderboard (display name only), and improve the content. We show no ads and we never sell personal data.

Retention & your rights

Your data is kept while your account is active. You can request a copy, a correction, or deletion of your data at any time — see Data Deletion. For EU/EEA users, processing is based on performance of contract (running the service you signed up for) and legitimate interest (keeping it working and fair).

Data Deletion

Last updated: 30 August 2026

To delete your account and everything attached to it, email [email protected] from the address you sign in with, with the subject "Delete my account".

• We delete your account, profile, preferences, progress, scores, and answer history within 30 days of the request.
• Your entries are removed from the leaderboard.
• Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged within a further 30 days.

Deletion is permanent — progress cannot be restored afterwards.

Kanji stroke-order data

Stroke-order data used in drawing practice is derived from KanjiVG, copyright © Ulrich Apel, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0. Our derived stroke data is available under the same license.

Reading passages

Some reading passages are sourced from Japanese Wikinews, text © its authors, licensed under CC BY 2.5. All other passages are original texts written for KanaQuiz. Some are on everyday topics drawn from current news, but the wording is our own and reproduces no third-party article.

Audio

All listening audio on KanaQuiz is synthesized in-house. No third-party recordings or broadcasts are used.

Everything else

All other content — games, questions, example sentences, manga panels, scene artwork and UI — is © KanaQuiz.
